Anna Thommesen
This spring’s major exhibition presents the work of Anna Thommesen, whose woven tapestries occupy a unique position in twentieth-century Danish art.
The exhibition showcases Thommesen’s lifelong practice of weaving tapestries for private homes, art collections, and significant public spaces.
Working with the woven tapestry as her medium, Anna Thommesen operated at the intersection of craft and image-making. The exhibition explores her relationship with nature and the abstract visual language she maintained throughout her life. It also delves into the connection between art and life, offering insight into her artistic process, which included dyeing with plants and preparing motifs through both meticulous pattern drawings and expressive watercolours.
All aspects of Thommesen’s art are presented in an extensive and sensuous installation that reflects on the past while drawing lines to contemporary textile and craft-based forms of expression.
The exhibition is created in collaboration with the National Gallery of Denmark, where it will be shown Febraury 7 - August 16, 2026.
