Ursula Munch-Petersen
Denmark's greatest ceramicist was an artist at heart. Ursula Munch-Petersen (DK, 1937-2025) spent her entire life designing, and in her work, which spans large public decorations for the popular URSULA tableware, she deals with themes such as climate, care, values and the very basics of life. Munch-Petersen managed to build a bridge between free, artistic thoughts and functional design, and her work connects aesthetics, practice, politics and rhythm.
Munch-Petersen was born in Rønne on Bornholm and brought her interest in ceramic work with her from home. Later in life, however, she also experienced how sudden success required a form of mass production, which challenged her artistic will.
The exhibition is the first since the artist's death in 2025 and presents new, artistic aspects of the beloved ceramicist. It is curated by art historian Mai Dengsøe at Gammel Strand where it is shown during the summer of 2026 (May 21 - August 30).
